Alexandra Harr’s current work explores layered abstraction, often incorporating subtle landscapes and hidden layers of meaning that reveal themselves over time. Her paintings are built through a series of carving away and adding marks and planes of color, balancing structure with spontaneity. While her earlier work focused on the figure, her practice has shifted toward a more intuitive approach—one that invites both discovery and stillness.

“Abstraction, for me, feels like composing a piece of music from thin air rather than playing something already written. Each painting builds slowly, layer by layer, revealing and concealing until it finds its own sense of balance.”

Alexandra began her artistic path at 15, studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and later earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She went on to run her own mural and design business, Stretton Designs, for over two decades, creating large-scale work for clients in both Denver and the Bay Area. Today, she is part of the artist community at ICB in Marin County, California, where she continues to develop her practice.
